According to Adar Poonawalla, CEO of the Serum Institute of India (SII), almost 40 million doses of Covovax have been exported to European countries and Australia, making it the first vaccine developed in India to be sold in Europe.

Meanwhile, the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved Covovax for children over the age of 12, but its administration has not yet been permitted. SII is waiting for the Government of India to allow it to be included in the CoWIN app and make it available to everyone.

SII would also perform a study on Covid vaccine mix-and-match trials, to use Covovax as a booster in two to three months. It is currently approved for children aged 12 and up. The government has also been requested to shorten the time between the second and third doses of the Covid vaccination from nine months to six months. (NDTV, April 12, 2022)
